Cases of COVID-19 have been detected on the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy of Britain. According to the news agency BBC, more than 100 corona cases have been reported on this aircraft carrier. This war fleet has gone out on a world tour. Cases of corona have also been reported on other ships operating with this war fleet. British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that all the crew members on the ship were given two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Because of this the outbreak was banned.
A 28-week deployment has been made for the HMS Queen Elizabeth’s World Tour. She is leading the Carrier Strike Group (CSG). At present it has entered the Indian Ocean. The Royal Navy said that it also has to visit Japan by this year. About 3700 jawans are part of CSG. HMS Queen Elizabeth has to cover 26 thousand miles
This is not the first time that a case of COVID infection has been reported on a Royal Navy ship. Last year, crew members of HMS Northumberland were forced to return to shore and isolate themselves. Actually, many people on the ship got infected with Corona. The World Tour is the first operational deployment of HMS Queen Elizabeth and will cover a distance of 26,000 miles. This three-billion-pound war fleet sailed from Portsmouth Naval Base in May. Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Boris Johnson both boarded the ship before leaving for the Indo-Pacific.
HMS Queen Elizabeth replaced HMS Illustrious
HMS Queen Elizabeth began sea trials in 2017. It replaced HMS Illustrious, which was converted into scrap in 2014. HMS Queen Elizabeth has eight Royal Air Force and 10 F35B fighters from the US Marine Corps. It will be supported by six Royal Navy ships in Asia. Apart from this, it will also be accompanied by a submarine, 14 naval helicopters and a company of Royal Marines.
