The former British Ambassador to the US, Sir Christopher Meyer has died aged 78.
According to the Daily Mail, the previous diplomat suffered a stroke whereas on vacation together with his spouse Catherine within the French Alps.
Confirming his demise on Twitter, the present Ambassador Karen Pierce wrote: “Very sad to see former British Ambassador to the US Christopher Meyer has died.
“He was one among my predecessors, however I first met him 30 years in the past after we served beneath Robin Renwick.
“He was a great diplomat and a great character. All our thoughts are with Catherine and his family.”
Sir Christopher served as ambassador to the US for six years from 1997, having beforehand been press secretary to then Conservative Prime Minister John Major between 1994 and 1996.
His memoirs, DC Confidential, launched in 2005, centred on his time in Washington and was closely important of Tony Blair over his dealing with of the interval main as much as the Iraq War.
