Afghanistan Latest News: The situation in Afghanistan is getting worse day by day. US President Joe Biden has taken a big decision amid the ever-increasing attacks of the Taliban. The Biden administration has decided on Monday that it will continue its evacuation program in areas where Afghan civilians are at risk due to increased Taliban violence.

The US administration says that the scope of granting refugee status to Afghan citizens is being expanded. For this, news organizations based in America, Aid and Development Agency and other relief groups (which are getting American funding) are being included. Apart from this, current and former employees of the US government and people engaged in NATO military operations will also be covered.

Thousands of Afghans will get refuge

The US State Department said the move would mean that thousands of Afghans and their families would have the opportunity to live as refugees in the US permanently. However, it has not been told how many people will be eligible for this program. The US State Department issued a statement saying, ‘America’s goal is that there should be peace in Afghanistan and everyone is safe. However, due to the increased violence of the Taliban, the US government is preparing to grant refugee status to those who were working with the US government.

Preparing to create a new category

In Afghanistan, there has been a particular threat to civilians who were working for America. Preparations are being made to create a ‘Priority-2’ category for these people and their families in the US Refugee Admissions Program itself. But there is a problem in this because these people are not working directly for America, so they cannot get special immigrant visa. To qualify in the Priority-2 category, Afghan citizens must be nominated by the most senior US civilian employee of a US government agency or organization.

Most translators

The first group of Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Applications are mostly people who used to work as translators for US soldiers or diplomats. This is a group of 221 people and America will bring about 2500 people to America in the coming days. Apart from this, 4000 SIV applicants and their families are yet to get security clearance. It is believed that they will be settled in some third country. About 20 thousand Afghans are showing their interest for this program.
