Thimphu: Bhutan on Friday announced the country’s highest civilian award ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of its National Day. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said on social media that he was delighted to hear that His Excellency Narendra Modi’s name has been announced for “the highest civilian decoration of the Order of the Druk Gyalpo”.
Earlier, Bhutan’s Prime Minister had tweeted that his country has conferred the highest civilian honor ‘Nagadag Pel Ji Khorlo’ on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The unconditional friendship and help that Modiji has extended over the years, especially during the pandemic, has been underlined by the King of Bhutan,” Tshering said.

Bhutan’s Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Facebook, “Congratulations from the people of Bhutan. In all the meetings I found PM Modi to be a great, spiritual person. Looking forward to celebrating the honor personally.”
Tshering also extended his best wishes to his countrymen on the 114th National Day of Bhutan. Last year, Prime Minister Modi received the US Armed Forces’ Legion of Merit by the US Government award, which is given for distinguished meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
Russia honored Modi with the ‘Order of St. Andrew’ award, its highest civilian honour, in 2019. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) also honored Modi with its highest civilian honor ‘Order of Zayed Award’ in 2019.(agency)
