Myanmar people took to the streets against the coup
The teenager, who was protesting against the Myanmar Coup in Myanmar, said about Junta’s treatment of security forces during detention, saying, ‘I was beaten up, kicked on my thigh and threatened with sexual violence . Out of the captivity of Saina (Army), the girl told how the women and girls are being treated behind bars.
17-year-old Ma Chou and her mother were arrested on April 14 from Myanmar’s commercial capital Yangon, where heavy security arrangements have been made by the military since the coup. He told that he was coming back from a friend’s house after the morning protests when two security trucks blocked his path. Ma Chou told that he was forced to lie on the ground.
Tampering during interrogation
High school student Ma Chou then faced six days full of fear and panic, along with the women who accused the police of torturing and abusing them behind closed doors. Chow said that during interrogation, he also faced molestation by a police officer. Six days later Chow was released but his mother was taken to Insen Prison in Yangon.
The minor student says that her mother is her family. Chow said, ‘I am very concerned about his safety and life. To ensure his mother’s release, Chow had to sign documents stating that he did not face any torture behind bars. He said that this is exactly the opposite of what he did to me and is completely unacceptable.
Mother was beaten up in police station
According to the local monitoring group Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, Chow’s mother is among more than 3,800 civilians arrested since the February 1 coup and is still behind bars. Very little information is available about prisoners in Myanmar because people released from captivity do not talk much about it.
Ma Chou said that first he and his mother were taken to a local police station, where the two were interrogated separately. He told that a policeman touched me who told me that he can kill me and disappear forever. Chow further said that if I had not removed the hand of that policeman, he would have continued to touch me. He told that during interrogation his mother was slapped twice.
Women injured in detention center
The next day she was taken to a detention center on the northern outskirts of Yangon, where she met other women, some of whom had bruises on their bodies. The student told that one of the women, who was in a relationship with a foreigner, was beaten up so badly that she was neither able to speak and could not eat properly. The woman told Cho that she could not urinate because during her interrogation, her private part was kicked.
The National Unity Government, an underground group of incumbents and anti-junta MPs, has announced that they are investigating ‘allegations of sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls in illegal detention’.
