A pack of wolves has been euthanised at a wildlife centre following the demise of their chief.
Camperdown Wildlife Centre in Dundee stated the alpha male wolf Loki needed to be put down after creating issues following an operation.
It stated 4 different wolves started to exhibit “unusually anxious and abnormal behaviour” after Loki’s process.
A call was then made to euthanise these wolves too.
In an announcement on Monday, a spokesperson stated the crew was “absolutely heartbroken” and the motion was taken as a “last resort”.
They stated: “We are devastated to announce that our alpha male wolf, Loki, has been humanely euthanised today.
“Despite an initially profitable operation, there have been subsequent issues, and the troublesome choice was reached to avoid wasting the animal from additional ache.
“The other four wolves in the pack have been exhibiting unusually anxious and abnormal behaviour since the operation, and it is with great sadness that these wolves have also been euthanised as a result.
“This plan of action was a final resort, and our crew is totally heartbroken. We ask you in your sort consideration right now.”
