Moscow: US President Joe Biden said on Monday that it would be prudent for Americans to leave Ukraine except essential diplomats amid a military threat. Biden made the remarks at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the White House.
Earlier, the two leaders held talks on the Ukrainian crisis. The US State Department has allowed its non-essential personnel working in Ukraine to return from there and appealed to all family members of diplomats to return from there as well.
Biden said on Monday that Nord Stream 2, a vital natural gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, would not survive if Russia took action against Ukraine with “tanks and forces”. French President Emmanuel Macron is in Russia for talks and German Chancellor Scholz is in Washington to coordinate policies as part of international efforts to resolve the Ukraine standoff. The deployment of nearly 100,000 Russian forces near Ukraine has raised concerns from Western countries, who see it as the start of a possible offensive.
