A person in his 60s has been arrested after a Mercedes was pushed for greater than 20 miles down the improper facet of a motorway, police have stated.
Officers say the Mercedes A 200 AMG was pushed at “excess speed” alongside the M4 close to Swindon, Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Police say a person from Oxfordshire was detained on suspicion of drink-driving, driving whereas unfit and harmful driving.
Acting Inspector Will Ayres stated it was a “miracle that nobody was injured”.
Police say they acquired a name round 3am on Sunday 9 January from a member of the general public reporting to have seen the car on the improper facet of the motorway between junctions 14, for Shefford Woodlands, and 15, for Chiseldon.
Officers say they gave chase from junction 16, for Swindon, after recognizing the car travelling west on the within eastbound lane.
Multiple makes an attempt had been made to cease the car however the driver continued regardless of oncoming site visitors, in line with the police.
The car was stopped near Leigh Delamere companies, close to Chippenham.
“We are aware multiple members of the public passed this driver and were understandably exceptionally concerned,” stated Acting Insp Ayres.
“Considering the distance travelled by this vehicle on the wrong side of the carriageway, it is a miracle that nobody was injured or involved in a collision.”
