UK government experts say there is no evidence that Covishield is less effective than other versions of AstraZeneca.
EMA did not approve Covishield (symbolic image)
About 5 million citizens of Britain may be banned from traveling to Europe because they have been given a dose of corona vaccine made in India. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has not yet approved Covishield, a vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), although it is as effective as AstraZeneca. Those vaccinated can be prevented from entering the EU border while checking batch numbers on digital Covid passports.
The EU Digital Covid Certificate allows people who have received both doses of the vaccine to travel to Europe without quarantine or testing. Vaccines currently approved by the EMA include Pfizer-BioNtech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made in Europe.
94% effective against Delta variants
By looking at the batch numbers written on the vaccination record card, the people of Britain will be able to know whether they have got the Kovishield vaccine jab or not. Those given the Covishield jab will have the numbers 4120Z001, 4120Z002 or 4120Z003 written on their cards. UK government experts said there is no evidence that the Serum Institute-made vaccine is less effective than the second batch of AstraZeneca. Professor Adam Finn said the EU issue was only an ‘administrative hurdle’.
Both versions of the AstraZeneca vaccine are 94 percent effective against delta variant deaths and 92 percent effective against hospitalizations. Despite the EMA’s refusal to accept the SII jab, nine European countries have reportedly told India that they will accept passengers who have taken the Covishield back to their country.
Nine European countries have approved
Nine countries in Europe have recognized Kovishield. Covishield has been approved in Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Estonia, Ireland and Spain. India has urged the European Union of 27 countries to consider allowing Indians to travel to Europe.
Let us tell you that before this, many countries of Europe had also banned the use of Covishield due to the cases related to blood clotting. But later when the investigation was done, it has been said that the vaccine has more advantages than its disadvantages. After which gradually many countries removed this ban.
