The Facebook-owned app received 560 complaints in September and banned a total of 220.9 lakh Indian accounts. The company has said that to prevent misuse of its platform, WhatsApp bans about 8 million accounts per month. At the same time, in the month of August also, WhatsApp had banned about 20 lakh Indian accounts and it had received 420 complaints.
A company spokesperson said that WhatsApp has been at the forefront of preventing abuse among end-to-end encrypted messaging services. Over the years, we have continuously invested in Artificial Intelligence (AI), world-class technologies, data scientists and experts to protect our users.
Facebook has said in its report that in September, it had received 708 complaints under the Indian Grievance System and took action on 2.69 crore content. Like WhatsApp, Instagram had received 418 complaints and took action against 3.2 million content.
At the same time, Google also said in a report that it had received 29,842 complaints during the month of September and removed 76,967 materials. Apart from this, through automated detection, he also removed 4,50,246 materials.
