Days after the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sent its final notice to microblogging platform Twitter over compliance with the new IT norms, the US-headquartered company has told the government that efforts will be made to comply with the norms. and within a week he will share information in this regard.
In a letter to the ministry, the company has said that it is committed to serve the people of India by providing a platform to facilitate public interaction in the country. Twitter clarified that as per the new guidelines, it has appointed a Nodal Liaison Officer and a Resident Grievance Office on contractual basis and the company is recruiting to fill up the posts on a permanent basis.
“In addition, we are in the advanced stages of finalizing the appointment for the role of Chief Compliance Officer and we plan to provide you with additional details over the next several days and within a week,” Twitter said.

On June 5, the ministry had sent its final notice to Twitter for non-compliance with the new IT norms, again warning of punitive action in case the US-based-headquartered social media platform fails to comply with norms. Went. In fact, the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT issued a notice to Twitter last week, giving it one last chance to comply with the new IT rules immediately.
The notice sent by the ministry states that although these rules are effective from May 26, 2021, but in good faith, Twitter Inc. is given an opportunity to comply with the rules through a final notice. He has to comply with the rules immediately. If he fails to do so, the exemption from the liability which he has got will be forfeited.
The ministry said that it is clear from the company’s replies that it has not informed the Chief Compliance Office details as required under the rules till date. Further, it also said that the Resident Grievance Officer and the nodal contact person designated by the forum are not its employees in India, as required under the new rules.
