Yahoo Mobile saw the launch of only a few devices during operation, including the budget Blade A3 Prime and the Blade A3 Y by ZTE.
Yahoo Mobile failed to impress customers much
Yahoo mobile phone service that uses the Verizon network is shutting down. This service has been announced on its official website. Another Verizon-powered service, XDA Developers, reported that for customers who continue to use the service, launched in March last year, the Yahoo Mobile website is asking them to switch to Visible.
Verizon acquired the Yahoo brand in 2016 for $4.83 billion. In March 2020, Verizon launched Yahoo Mobile with just one plan on offer: unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data for $40 per month.
Blade A3 Prime and Blade A3 Y launched during this service
As The Verge reported, Yahoo Mobile was a rebranded version of Visible, one of Verizon’s spinoff phone services. During its operation, the service saw the launch of only a few devices, including the budget Blade A3 Prime and the Blade A3 Y by ZTE.
Last month, Verizon sold all brands under Verizon Media, including selling Yahoo to an investment management firm called Apollo Global Management. Yahoo Mobile on a support page cited the reason for the sale as being discontinued, but according to the report, the service did not last long due to poor branding, marketing and value.
This service will be completely closed by August 31
Currently Yahoo Mobile members will still have service for this billing cycle and can update their service for another month, but the service will be completely discontinued by August 31. Those members can request to transfer their numbers to another carrier by logging into yahoomobile.com or the yahoo mobile app, and members are free to bring their existing devices to another carrier.
