In May this year, Google announced that the way users log into their Google Accounts will change by the end of 2021. The tech giant has asked to make the two-step verification process mandatory for all users. Starting November 9, all Google Account users will have to go through a two-step verification to be able to access their account.
This is a big change, as it will add an extra layer of security to the account. Announcing the update earlier this year, Google’s official blog post said, “By the end of 2021, we plan to auto-nominate an additional 150 million Google users to 2SV and to roll it out to 2. Million YouTube creators are needed.”
What will change for the users?
For users who do not know the meaning of two-step verification, it is basically an extra layer of security across all accounts. Once the option is enabled, users will receive an SMS or an email with a one-time password (OTP) whenever they log into their Google Account. Users will be able to enter their accounts only if they have entered their one-time password, which will change each time you enter your Google Account. This will add an extra layer of security to your account and protect personal data.
According to reports, Google is sending email and in-app signals to all users to enable two-step verification. The message clearly states that if the verification process is not enabled, it will be activated automatically on November 9.
According to the prompt, “After entering the password, you will have to complete the second step on the phone. Keep your phone handy while logging in. Two-step verification will be activated automatically on November 9. If you want, you can activate this feature first: Your account is ready.”
