The company, known for making Balmuda the Toaster, sold for 25,850 yen (about $ 235), said it was joining hands with Kyocera and SoftBank for a new 5G smartphone.
The company said, “Based on the experience and achievements in the home appliances business, we would like to propose unique new experiences and surprises for Balamuda in the mobile terminal market as well, which is becoming more commoditized.”
It said, since we are a fabless producer who does not have a factory of our own, we will start our business as a manufacturing partner with Kyosera Corporation. As a domestic telecom carrier, Balamuda is planning to sell a sim-free model.
Balmuda CEO Jane Terrao said that in today’s time all smartphones are the same and customers have few options. This thing has given us the opportunity to become number one in terms of uniqueness, not in terms of market share. The company plans to generate about 2.7 billion yen ($ 24.6 million) from this smartphone business this year.
