ESA shared this image on Instagram, which shows a fascinating landscape near Hook Crater in the South Highlands of Mars. According to ESA, such a picture on Mars is like a chaotic area. This is an indication of the local wind pattern that is blowing here. For this reason this area looks quite different.
ESA used some filters to prepare this image. The dusty tracks have also been given a blue color through the filter itself. Altogether three filters were used. This area of Mars looks quite chaotic, but the ESA has not classified it among the 30 areas which are clearly very chaotic.
By the way, the pictures coming from Mars show something new every time and surprise the scientists. Just looking at a picture that came a few days ago, it seemed as if a huge tree had been cut. That picture was also released by the European Space Agency. On its website, ESA had told that the picture is in reality a spectacular view of the ice-rich crater on the surface of Mars. The picture was taken on 13 June 2021.
That image was also taken by the CaSSIS camera on the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO). TGO is a joint venture between the European Space Agency and the Russian space agency Roscosmos. TGO orbits Mars and collects data about its atmosphere. In recent images Acidalia is associated with the northern plains of Planitia.
