Redmi Note 11S is a 4G phone. In this you will not get 5G connectivity. Its most notable feature is its 108-megapixel camera. Xiaomi has launched this smartphone at a price of Rs 16,499, which is commendable. All the features that you would like to see in the smartphones launching in this segment in 2022 are present in this phone. The phone is yet to go through many of our tests, but we are here to tell you how happy this device made us at first glance.
The design of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11S matches the Redmi Note 11T 5G which was the first smartphone in the Redmi 11 series. The company launched it a few months back in the same price range. However, the quad camera setup is available in the Redmi Note 11S. Apart from the 108-megapixel main sensor, this phone has an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel macro lens. The 16-megapixel front camera in the phone has been fitted in the hole-punch cutout. A chrome ring is given above the lens.
The design of the Redmi Note 11S is not very attractive. Its white and blue color variants may look a bit different, but the black unit that I have, the color looks quite faint. Despite having a matte finish, stains and dust are easily visible on it. The body of the phone is made of plastic, but it feels good when held in the hand. As usual, Xiaomi has not only provided an IR emitter, but also a headphone jack, which is a good thing.
The phone has a 6.43-inch full-HD Plus (FHD +) AMOLED display. It has become better than the Note 11T 5G, which had an LCD panel. The refresh rate is 90Hz and the peak brightness is 1000 nits. The OLED panel makes blacks look deeper, the color gamut wider, leading to a better video viewing experience. The phone has stereo speakers, which has now become a must-have feature for most Redmi smartphones.
MediaTek Helio G96 processor has been given in Redmi Note 11S, which we also got to see in Realme 8i. Apart from this, the same processor is also seen in Realme Narzo 50. The processor is built on the older 12nm fabrication process, so on the pages it is not as power efficient as the more recent MediaTek Dimensity or Qualcomm processors. This can also be underestimated by the Snapdragon 732G of Redmi Note 10 Pro. However, this processor comes in the count of powerful chip and you will have to wait for its review to know more about its performance.
The 6GB RAM and 64GB storage variant of the Redmi Note 11S costs Rs 16,499 in India. At the same time, its 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant has been launched for Rs 17,499, and the top end variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage has been launched for Rs 18,499.
The device has a dedicated microSD card slot, with the help of which the storage can be increased. It has a 5000mAh capacity battery and also has 33W fast charging support. A charger of such capacity is also available in the retail box. The phone has an IP53 rating for dust and water resistance. Apart from this, it comes with a side mounted fingerprint sensor. The phone runs on MIUI 13 based on Android 11.
Whatever I have used Redmi Note 11S in this short time, the build quality of the phone is good. The design doesn’t look appealing, but probably won’t make much difference once you install the case. It is a matter for me to consider how the Redmi Note 11S can fit into the company’s current lineup. We know that the launch of Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is set and the phone has been introduced in the global market. This phone can be launched in India under the name of Redmi Note 11E. If you are looking for a 4G only Redmi smartphone, the Redmi Note 10 Pro is still a good option, which comes with better features than the Redmi Note 11S.
I can’t tell my final verdict until the Redmi Note 11S is finished testing, so stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the full review.
