According to the Zoroastrian calendar, the period of the vernal equinox is called Navroz. Here the spring and the equinox mean spring and the equator. According to old beliefs, when the rays of the sun fall on the equator, then that period is celebrated as the festival of Navroz.
More than 300 million people around the world celebrate Navroz. Various rituals are also performed on this day. On the day of Navroz, candles, incense sticks, glasses, sweet dishes, coins, flowers, fruits etc. with the picture of Zarathustra are kept at the holy place of the house and special worship is performed. People of the Parsi community believe that this brings happiness, peace, love and wealth in the family. People join together in congregational prayers. It is said that on this day Parsis dedicate sandalwood to the fire and wish each other a Happy New Year.
With this day, festivals begin in many parts of the world. This 13-day festival begins with the spring equinox when the sun is crossing the equator. This time itself signifies new birth and harmony of life with nature. On this day people clean their houses, visit friends and neighbors to greet them and celebrate the festival by preparing various traditional dishes and sweets.
