According to the TRAI report, the total number of mobile subscriptions in India in December was 1.155 billion, while the total number of active mobile subscribers in a day in December was 1,00,06,30,000. For the first time in 2016, the total number of mobile subscriptions in India reached one billion users. It is estimated that by 2026, the number of smartphone users in the country will reach one billion.
According to the report, the total number of wireless subscribers in the country stood at 1.155 billion in December, which saw a decline of 12.88 million subscribers. Urban areas had 633 million mobile users with 132.68 percent tele-density, while rural areas had 521 million mobile subscribers with 58.28 percent tele-density.
A total of 8.54 million subscribers requested for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in December. Since the implementation of MNP in the year 2010, now 661.42 million MNP requests have been received in the country.
According to the TRAI report, Reliance Jio is at the forefront of subscribers. Its stake stood at 36 per cent in December. Airtel came second with 30.81 per cent. The market share of Vodafone-Idea and BSNL stood at 23 per cent and 9.90 per cent, respectively.
