New feature of Whatsapp
WhatsApp can work on multi-device 2.0. It currently allows up to four linked devices in one account.
WhatsApp has started working on an update to its multi-device feature. The updated “Linked Device” option will let you use a secondary smartphone, Android or iOS, as the main WhatsApp gateway, even if your primary smartphone doesn’t have an internet connection. The feature has been spotted by WABetaInfo, which is now calling it Multi-Device 2.0. The publication found this feature to be under development and because of this, it is not yet available to the users. It is expected to be rolled out in a future update for WhatsApp beta users on Android and iOS.
Confirming the update, WABetaInfo shared a screenshot of the new Multi-Device 2.0. As can be seen, the screenshot is of a smartphone and displays a window similar to what we currently see when WhatsApp is loading on a linked computer. It is written in this that, downloading recent messages, a process that happens directly from the WhatsApp server.
This means that if you plan to use WhatsApp on a secondary phone, then your primary smartphone does not need to be connected to the Internet. Once linked, the new device will automatically download the chat backup.
As soon as it rolls out, the update will resolve one of the biggest limitations that plague the Multiple Linked Devices feature of WhatsApp currently under test. Many users of the chat app are looking forward to the ability to connect multiple smartphones to a single WhatsApp account running on a particular telephone number. Currently, this feature allows connectivity with up to four devices, but only one of them is a smartphone.
WABetaInfo reported seeing the feature on the iPad. It shared that Multi-Device 2.0 will enable a link between WhatsApp for iPad and iPhone. Users can then message and call people on their iPhones from their iPads without an active Internet connection. Even tablets are not currently supported by the multi-device feature, and hence the update will be easier for tablet users.
The WhatsApp multi-device feature is currently available in beta format for all WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business beta users as well as some no-beta users in limited countries. The opt-in program allows multiple device connectivity with up to four devices, without the need for internet on the main phone.
