Meta-owned WhatsApp is now rolling out a feature that will allow users to link their accounts to a secondary device and continue to send and receive messages online without a primary smartphone. According to a report by GSM Arena, in the most recent update of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS versions, this feature has been officially rolled out to all WhatsApp users.
The report states that while enabling this feature on your smartphone, you have to select the feature – which is labeled as Still in Beta. Once enabled, you will be unlinked from all devices before relinking to a new device. Once linked, it behaves in much the same way, except that you will be able to chat whether your main smartphone is online or not.
Plus, messages and calls are still end-to-end encrypted. The linked devices will be able to receive and send messages up to 14 days after the main smartphone is offline. To see this feature, update to the latest version of WhatsApp and tap on the three-dot menu. Then tap on Linked devices and enable the feature.
WhatsApp will increase the time limit of Delete for Everyone feature
WhatsApp is reportedly working on increasing the time limit for the delete for everyone feature. The delete for everyone option was introduced in 2017 and initially had a time limit of seven seconds which was later increased to 4,096 seconds in 2018. Now, according to a report, the time limit for using Delete for Everyone can be increased. The report also shared a screenshot in which it showed that a message from three months ago was still eligible for deletion for both the people.
According to the report, the WhatsApp beta for iOS (v2.21.220.15) is getting a new video playback interface, so that users can pause the video in full screen, or close the picture-in-picture window.
