According to a report published in Gizmochina, the company gave this information last week. HMD Global’s Vice President (India and MENA – Middle East and North Africa) Sanmeet Singh Kochhar told news agency PTI that the company is exporting the Nokia 105 feature phone to the UAE market.
The Nokia 105 feature phone was launched in 2019 and has since been the best-selling feature phone in India and globally.
Kochhar said, “We have started exporting from India. Till now all our phones sold in India are made in India. Not only are they made in India, but we are also focusing on manufacturing them with Indian manufacturing partners and now we have started exporting from India.”
Kochhar also spoke about the utility of feature phones in the current era. He said that while smartphones are very popular now, feature phones can also be used in many ways. Their long battery life, easy repair and low cost are beneficial for the customers. He said that there is no doubt that now entry level smartphones have become very affordable and are available in the market at a low price, but feature phones still have a strong hold in a market like India. He also did not rule out the decline in feature phone sales globally.
Nokia’s hold has been on the Indian market since the beginning. Before the arrival of the smartphone, the company’s feature phones were quite popular in the Indian market. The company’s reputation among the consumers in the country is still strong.
