Mohit Goyal, who made a SIM card-priced smartphone i.e. ‘Freedom 251’ phone, has been arrested from Greater Noida. In 2017, his role remained in the fraud of 45 lakh rupees from lakhs of people of the country by claiming to give a smartphone for just Rs 251. Goyal had earlier formed a company called Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd and offered a smartphone at a price tag of Rs 251. This phone was being called Freedom 251. These smartphones were not delivered to most of the customers who had booked or bought them.
In this case, Goyal was arrested in 2017 for cheating. In 2018, he was arrested by the police for allegedly extortion. This time Goyal has been arrested for allegedly cheating in the dry fruit business. The main kingpin of this gang is Mohit Goyal, who after a year formed a gang and bought dry fruits, rice, spices etc. from wholesale traders living in different areas of the country and gave them checks instead of cash for payment, which bounced. Apur Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Ranvijay Singh told that this scam is of more than 200 crores.
According to a Times of India report, Vikas Mittal of Indirapuram has filed an FIR against Mohit Goyal and five others alleging fraud of Rs 41 lakh. He had duped Vikas Mittal of Rs 41 lakh and when the victim spoke to him, he was threatened. According to Indirapuram SHO Sanjay Pandey, “On August 19, the accused tried to crush Vikas Mittal with a car. Mittal was injured and on the same day he lodged a police complaint against Goyal.
Sanjay Pandey reportedly said, “After the FIR, a team of Ghaziabad Police raided Mohit Goyal’s house and arrested him. Five others have been named in the FIR.”
Is Freedom 251 Smartphone Scam?

However, most of the buyers never got the smartphone. The company also reportedly did not provide refunds to customers who had pre-booked the Freedom 251.
Days after Goyal announced the phone, government officials found that the product did not have the Indian Standards Certification Bureau. Ringing Bells was also accused of fraud and non-payment of dues by its customer service provider Cyfuture. However, the company claimed that it had delivered 5,000 units of the Freedom 251 to the customers.
