According to a report by Credit Suisse, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are in the position to benefit the most from its emergence in India. However, Credit Suisse also says that it is too early to assess the impact of Metaverse on the revenue of Indian telcos.
The metaverse is the next stage of the digital ecosystem in which a person realizes himself in a virtual world. According to a Credit Suisse report, due to the metaverse, screen time can increase, that is, people can increase the use of digital assets like smartphones. It has been said in the report that 5G will support the metaverse ecosystem, but its use will accelerate with the arrival of 6G. With the growth of the metaverse, the technology required for this may also see a boom in Augmented Realty and Virtual Realty Technologies.
May be used first in gaming segment
The first segment in which the Metaverse can be used is the gaming segment. According to a Credit Suisse report, gaming in India is still in its early stages and it is growing rapidly due to cheap smartphones and 4G data services. The share of mobile games in online gaming in India is likely to increase.

The use of fixed broadband connections is expected to increase
According to a Credit Suisse report, in the second half of the current decade, Airtel and Jio will benefit from the increase in data usage due to the metaverse. The report has estimated that fixed broadband connections may increase from 6.8 per cent in FY20 to 9 per cent in the current fiscal year 2022. With the increasing demand for data and telcos improving utilization rate of their fiber infrastructure, it could reach 12.6 per cent by FY2025. At present, 17% of Airtel’s revenue comes from fixed line.
