A brand new AI-generated rip-off advert for an funding app will result in susceptible individuals dropping cash and ruining lives, Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has warned.
The advert, which reportedly circulated on Facebook, seems to indicate Mr Lewis endorsing an Elon Musk-backed funding scheme whereas showing on an episode of daytime present This Morning, from his house.
In the web video, Mr Lewis seems to say that Musk’s new challenge “opens up new opportunities for British citizens”.
In response, Mr Lewis stated using deepfake expertise to copy his face and voice is getting used to “pervert and destroy” his fame with the intention to rip-off individuals on-line.
“This is frightening, it’s the first deepfake video scam I’ve seen with me in it,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Govt & regulators must step up to stop big tech publishing such dangerous fakes. People’ll lose money and it’ll ruin lives.”
He stated it was the primary time he has been used on this form of video rip-off.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Lewis added: “These people are trying to pervert and destroy my reputation in order to steal money off vulnerable people, and frankly it is disgraceful, and people are going to lose money and people’s mental health are going to be affected.”
He emphasised that extra must be finished to control rip-off adverts and shield victims of economic crimes.
“Vulnerable people and many non-vulnerable people are being scammed in this country and nothing is being done about it”, he stated.
He stated there are at present no “proper” fines for large tech companies who receives a commission to publish prison adverts.
The firm which owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp – Meta – is working with Stop Scams UK to assist victims and take away scams on the supply, as quickly because it turns into conscious of them.
It stated it’s investigating after claims the video involving Mr Lewis appeared for customers on Facebook.
