Is your device not included in this list?
Millions of internet users may lose connectivity on their devices on 30 September. Read below to find out if you are one of them.
Today i.e. from September 30, the time may end for the use of the Internet on millions of devices. This includes the older generation of Apple Macs and iPhones, the Nintendo 3DS gaming console, the Sony PlayStation 3 and even some PlayStation 4 consoles, along with a large number of smart TVs. The TV setup box is also included in the list. Internet connectivity may be lost on many such devices due to alleged expiration of an important digital certificate. The certificate is important in verifying a secure internet connection.
This means that people who have devices that no longer have the required digital certificate will not be able to take advantage of features like checking email, browsing common websites or watching movies and TV shows on OTT services like Netflix.
Digital certificates are expiring, which could lead to an internet doomsday for millions of devices. This IdentTrust DST root is called CA X3. This certificate enables Internet users to securely log on to websites starting with HTTPS. It encrypts the connection between the device and the Internet. The IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 Certificate was created by a non-profit organization called Let’s Encrypt.
