Earlier this week, Netflix said it did not plan to add any state-run channels to its Russian service under the current circumstances. Referring to the Russo-Ukraine war in his statement, the company’s spokesperson said that in view of the current situation, we have no plans to add these channels to our service.
Netflix launched its service in Russia in October 2020. As per the new rules, an audio-visual service with over one lakh subscribers will have to distribute 20 free-to-air news, sports and entertainment channels on its platform. A Netflix spokesperson has not yet commented on this. It is not clear how the service will be affected by Netflix’s decision.
