According to news agency PTI, Rajiv Chandrashekhar said in Parliament on Wednesday that the government is considering a special OS developed in India for mobile phones. He also said that no funds have been allocated by the government for this yet.
“As part of the government’s efforts to create a vibrant design and innovation ecosystem in electronics and information technology, the government is looking at development of operating systems,” Chandrashekhar said.
The report further says that when asked by Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram whether the OS would be available only in India, Chandrashekhar said that the government has no such policy, which restricts the export and use of Indian software products outside India. Ho.
The government has been considering a Made-in-India solution for some time now to replace the operating systems of foreign companies. Earlier in January, Chandrashekhar had said that the government was planning to introduce a policy that would provide the industry with an ecosystem to build an indigenous operating system as an alternative to Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. Chandrasekhar believes that the smartphone is occupied by two operating systems – Android and iOS, which are also running the hardware ecosystem.
He told that the interest of MeitY and the Government of India is to make a new handset operating system and people are being talked about it. He says that the government is exploring capabilities within the start-up and academic ecosystem for development of an indigenous operating system (OS).<!–
