Google announced on Wednesday that it has enabled the Passes API, which allows you to store the COVID-19 vaccination card. At the same time you can also keep the COVID result in your phone.
The company has said that, it is currently rolling out this feature in the US and it will soon be rolled out to other countries as well. Google said in a blog that, it has enabled its Passes API, so that all these things will now be done from your phone. Beginning today, organizations authorized to conduct COVID vaccines and/or tests through healthcare organizations, government agencies and public health officials will have access to these APIs to create digital versions of COVID vaccination or test information.
Very easy process to store the card
Google says that once a user has stored their COVID-related card on their device, they will be able to access it through a shortcut on their device’s home screen. Users will not need an active internet connection to access their COVID vaccination card. Your Android device must be running Android 5 or later and be Play Protect certified. It is not mandatory to install the Google Pay app to access the COVID card.
Google will not share your information
Google assures that users’ COVID card information is not shared by Google to target its third party services and advertisements. Only users can show their card to people, services. Google has no role there, it will only help you store the vaccination card in your device. If you want to access your COVID related card on multiple devices, it will have to be manually stored on each device.
To store a COVID card on a device, users need to set up a lock screen. Google says this is “for added security and to protect the personal information of the user. When a user wants to access their COVID card, they will be asked to set a password, PIN or biometric password for their Android device.
