Tesla CEO Elon Musk referred to as for a federal division of AI in a dialog with reporters following a Capitol Hill summit that featured high-profile tech leaders, activists and researchers.
Musk arrived on the Capitol in a black Tesla on Wednesday morning to share his ideas with Congress and different tech executives, together with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Musk has beforehand mentioned that unchecked synthetic intelligence presents a dire threat to humanity and reiterated that stance in his feedback Wednesday.
“I think this meeting could go down in history as important to the future of civilization,” Musk instructed reporters after the summit. AI improvement, the billionaire continued, “is potentially harmful to all humans everywhere.”
Musk expressed optimism concerning the assembly, saying that there gave the impression to be a “strong consensus.” Musk thought it doubtless that federal AI division may function equally to the Federal Aviation Administration or the Securities and Exchange Commission, including that these within the area needed to be “proactive while reactive.”
