Clouds of crisis hovering over iPhone 13 production, due to chip shortage, the company will no longer be able to make so many millions of phones

There may be a reduction in the production of the iPhone 13 Pro

The ongoing chip shortage in the world is going to have a big impact on the production of iPhone 13 this year. While Apple had expected to produce 90 million new iPhone models in the last three months of the year, it may now have to cut this projection by up to 10 million units.

Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported that Apple is the latest victim of a supply shortage on the chipsets used in smartphones. Sources said that the estimated iPhone production will not be completed as Broadcom Inc and Texas Instruments Inc are struggling to deliver the required units. Broadcom Inc. supplies wireless components for the iPhone, while the latter supplies various chipset components and displays to Apple.

Apple gave information to others

The lack of similar components from other suppliers also affects Apple’s planning. The report states that Apple has addressed the issue with its other manufacturing partners and informed them about lower-than-expected iPhone production this year.

This problem will build up if the iPhone 13 Pro model is already running late. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max units that have already been ordered through the Apple website are expected to be delivered by next month. The delay in shipment is also affecting the availability of models in offline stores.

Tim Cook had given a warning

Not that Apple was unaware of the impact of this chip shortage on its iPhone 13 sales. Apple CEO Tim Cook predicted this during a call with investors in July, saying chip shortages around the world would hit iPhones production in the coming months. Until then, shipments were delayed due to lack of supplies to iMacs and iPads.

The tech major tried to circumvent this effect by redirecting its available resources to the latest iPhones. For this, Apple discontinued the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max just after the launch of the iPhone 13 series. Though it certainly cannot make up for the steep drop in supply being experienced across the industry.
