Brazil Consumer Protection Agency Procon- SP has fined Apple 2 million rupees i.e. 14 crore rupees. The penalty has been imposed because Apple has not provided the charger with the iPhone 12 box. According to the report, Apple was asked a question in this matter last year as well. Procon-SP said that, Apple’s own move could not prove what the environment would benefit from it.
In its new decision, the agency also asked Apple whether the company reduced the price of the phone after removing the charger from the box? Apple has not yet responded to this. The company has not even confirmed this till now, what is the price of Apple iPhone 12 without charger and how much is it with the charger.
Apart from the charger, Apple has also questioned that, users updated iOS, after which their phones started having problems. Apple also did not help users with this. Fernando Capage, executive director of Procon- SP, said that Apple should know that Brazil has very strong consumer protection regulations. In such a situation, the company will have to respect them.
Apple launched the iPhone 12 only last year. The company had said that, the new model will not come with the charger, whereas in the box you will not find earbuds either. Apple had said that the reason behind this is that we want to save the environment from e-waste problems, after this move of the company, Samsung and other smartphone brands have also decided to skip the charger.
After this decision, many critics criticized Apple and said that the company has taken this step not to protect the environment but to reduce the shipping cost.
