Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel on Wednesday signed an agreement with Intel for the development of 5G network in India. For this, the company has taken advantage of vRAN / O-RAN technology. Airtel has set a 5G roadmap in India where users will be able to access Industry 4.0, cloud gaming and virtual reality on a daily basis and this agreement is part of this. Under this agreement, Airtel will deploy third generation Xeon scalable processors, FPGAs and eASICs, and Ethernet 800 series across its network.
The company is doing 5G trials in big cities
According to the company, this is expected to develop a strong foundation for 5G rollout, mobile edge computing and networks on a large scale. Airtel said in a statement that as members of O-RAN, Airtel and Intel will work together to develop Make in India 5G solutions and build telecom infrastructure in India through local partners. Airtel claims to be the first telecom operator in India to demonstrate 5G on a live network. And the company is doing 5G trials in big cities.
According to the company, the Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is expected to be an area of great innovation and creativity in the coming years. O-RAN platforms will use Intel FlexRAN to enable software-based radio base stations. These radio base stations can run on general purpose servers and are located on the network edge.

It is worth noting that India has the second largest internet population in the world, largely affordable smartphones with low data tariffs. Apart from this, India’s active Internet user base is expected to increase to 900 million by 2025.
