Luis Severino was feeling actually good Monday after throwing for the primary time after being shut down with a lat pressure, that was till he was informed by the Yankees trainers he was occurring the 60-day injured listing. Then he was “not happy.”
“I was not happy. I was not expecting that,” Severino stated earlier than Tuesday evening’s sport towards the Mariners on the Stadium. “But that’s the plan that they have. So for me to come back healthy I’ll have to just follow that plan. Work hard to come back sooner.”
Severino, who stated he feels good and able to go, received’t be eligible to return off the IL till mid-September. The transfer was made immediately Monday evening after the Yankee acquired Scott Effross, Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino and wanted roster area.
“Obviously I think it’s a little bit of a roster situation,” Yankees supervisor Aaron Boone stated. “It’s probably going to be a situation where it’s close. We want to get Sevy back as a starter and, and built up to that point. So there’s probably going to be whatever it is a week overlap (from when he’d have been back off the regular IL). The bottom line is we want to get Sevy back in the rotation. This timeline allows for still probably four or five, six starts at the back end of the season, and hopefully hitting the ground because he’s built up to a point from that from start one to where he’s, you know, pitching full bore for us because we think he’s going to be an integral part in any kind of playoff run that we hope to go on.” The Yankees have been already monitoring Severino’s innings this season due to his extreme historical past of accidents over the previous three seasons. They had thought they might get between 120-130 innings out of Severino and on the tempo he was on, he would have blown via it.
Still, the Yankees didn’t inform him that. Severino was informed by the staff coach and didn’t communicate to Boone till Tuesday afternoon.
“He knows,” Severino stated when requested if he informed Boone he was sad with the choice and the way it was dealt with. Boone agreed it was not superb.
“I think it was abrupt and quick and just with the chaos that’s going on with the deadline and all that’s going through it was one of those immediate decisions that came down kind of quick,” Boone stated.
