With the Ravens’ season kicking off Sunday, expectations in Baltimore are excessive — particularly for a choose few within the staff’s locker room.
On Wednesday and Thursday, 12 Ravens veterans have been requested to call a teammate they assume could have an enormous yr. Here’s how they answered.
Tight finish Nick Boyle
“[Tight end] Isaiah Likely. What he has been doing out there has been impressive. He has a real knack for football.”
Inside linebacker Malik Harrison
“Isaiah [Likely]. Just what he has shown in preseason and what I’ve seen in practice. I can see him having a big year.”
Safety Chuck Clark
“I think Isaiah Likely will have a big season, just seeing what he did in preseason. And I feel like it’s going to be good for us to have two tight ends that are threats. I think guys are going to be [focused] on other stuff on our offense, and he’s going to pop up and make plays.”
Defensive lineman Justin Madubuike
“I love the way [safety] Marcus Williams has been practicing. He’s a dog. There’s a reason why they are paying him. He’s a beast, and I can’t wait to see him unleash.”
Safety Geno Stone
“I’ll say Marcus Williams — watching the way he practices and how successful he was in New Orleans.”
Guard Kevin Zeitler
“I think [right tackle] Morgan Moses is going to have a hell of a year. I think this system fits what he does well. I think it’s going to allow him to be free and do some pretty cool things. So it’s going to be exciting to watch what he can do.”
Wide receiver Rashod Bateman
“[Quarterback] Lamar Jackson. You know why? It’s because he’s Lamar Jackson. Bro has a lot of people to prove wrong, and we are ready to see him play.”
Wide receiver James Proche II
“Rashod Bateman. I think it’s his time. He had some injuries last year, but I think this year he’s going to step into the No. 1 role and ball.”
Outside linebacker Odafe Oweh
“Bate [Bateman]. It’s just his releases. No one can touch him. I think wide receiver is like pass-rushing with all of that [movement] stuff. The way he’s getting out of them breaks and manipulating people’s bodies and everything, getting open, it just looks crazy. He’s been doing it all training camp, so I expect a big year.”
Inside linebacker Josh Bynes
“My guy P.Q. [inside linebacker Patrick Queen]. I think he’s going to do some things that everybody’s just pretty much been talking about. He’s going to be able to go out there and make plays and play calm, play free, and just go out there each and every play and just dominate, take over games. And that’s what I’m looking forward to, and I know he is for himself, and I just can’t wait to see it.”
Cornerback Marlon Humphrey
“We’ve got some guys. I think that draft class was really good. Likely flashed a lot; [safety Kyle] Hamilton flashed a lot. … Let’s see, who else really flashed a lot? [Center Tyler] Linderbaum just got in there, and it seemed like there was no drop-off. There were not a lot of times when we kind of noticed that he was a rookie in there. So we’ve got some really good guys. ‘Pepe’ [cornerback Damarion Williams], I love Pepe. I love the juice he plays with. So we’ve got some guys that I’m really excited to see. It will be live bullets, so you really get to see who guys are. So, I’m really excited about that.”
Quarterback Lamar Jackson
“The Ravens offense, the Ravens defense, the Ravens special teams, just because we’re hungry. So, yes, all of us.”
