University of Central Florida has stuffed two positions vacated by the departure of former defensive coordinator Travis Williams to Arkansas.
The Knights, who had already promoted defensive backs coach Addison Williams to defensive coordinator, employed former NFL nice Ernie Sims as the brand new linebackers coach.
UCF head coach Gus Malzahn posted on Twitter: “Excited to welcome @ErnieSims34 to UCF!! A top young coach who had himself an incredible playing career here in the Sunshine State and NFL. Our linebackers are in great hands! #ChargeOn”
Sims was a university star at Florida State after which a first-round, No. 9, decide of the Detroit Lions within the 2006 NFL Draft. The 38-year-old Sims was most just lately linebackers coach on the workers of fired USF coach Jeff Scott.
Malzahn added in a press launch: “We’re excited to welcome Ernie, his wife, Brooke, and their four children to the UCF family,” he wrote. “Ernie had an incredible playing career, both in the NFL as a top draft pick and in college here in the state of Florida. He’s one of the top young coaches and will do a great job coaching our linebackers.”
Sims’ first faculty teaching place was at FAU as power and conditioning coach on the workers of Lane Kiffin.
Sims was a Parade and USA Today prep All-American at North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee. He performed three seasons at FSU, getting into the NFL Draft early. Sims spent his first 4 NFL seasons at Detroit, then hung out with the Eagles, Colts and Cowboys.
