Lucknow: The Lucknow franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been named Lucknow Super Giants. Team owner Sanjeev Goenka shared its name in a video message on Monday. The Lucknow team, owned by the RPSG Group, had asked fans for their opinion on the name, after which it was decided to name the team Lucknow Super Giants.
Announcing the name, Goenka said, “Thank you very much for the overwhelming response to the ‘Naam Banao Naam Kamao’ contest. Lakhs of people responded, based on which we are very happy to have chosen the name for the Lucknow IPL team.”

On January 3, the franchise owners started a campaign for fans on social media to decide the name of this new IPL team. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the two new teams in the IPL from this year. There are now 10 teams in this dazzlingly packed league. Lokesh Rahul will take charge of the Lucknow franchise in the upcoming IPL season. The team has also signed Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bashnoi ahead of the players’ auction.
