Karachi, Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi became the youngest captain to win a major T20 league title when he led the Lahore Qalandars to defeat Multan Sultans in Lahore on Sunday. Won the Pakistan Super League 2022 title by defeating Afridi is 21 years old.
The previous record was held by former Australia captain Steve Smith, who led the Sydney Sixers to the Big Bash title in 2012 at the age of 22. Afridi, who has not captained the team at any level, was surprised by the Lahore franchise before the PSL season.

On Sunday, however, this decision of the team management proved to be correct. Lahore Qalandars registered a comfortable 42-run victory in the final. Despite losing three wickets for 25 runs, the team made a comeback with the innings of experienced Mohammad Hafeez (69), Harry Brooke (41 not out) and David Wiese (28 not out) to post a huge total of 180 runs for five wickets.
Brooke and Wisey shared an unbroken 43-run partnership in just 2.4 overs. In reply, Multan was reduced to 138 runs in 19.3 overs in front of the fine bowling of Afridi (3 for 30), Mohammad Hafeez (2 for 23) and Zaman Khan (2 for 26). Khushdil Shah scored 32 runs for Multan Sultans. (agency)
