Mumbai: Legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was recently ranked second in the list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket for India, says he never runs after figures and makes personal achievements a part of the journey. Admittedly, not the end goal.
Ashwin took 12 wickets at an average of 15.08 in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, he surpassed Kapil Dev’s figure of 434 wickets. He now has 442 wickets to his name and has reached the eighth position in the list of bowlers with most Test wickets in the world.
Ashwin said in a release, “The numbers look good and it is good to see what I have achieved in terms of numbers. The more I played, the more I felt that statistics are part of your journey, not the end goal.” “It’s feeling especially great in the last two-three years. The series win in Australia, the return to the T20 team, it was the same feeling I had when I made it to the team for the first time.”

The 35-year-old spinner will play for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL, which is their fifth franchise in the league. He said that this T20 tournament helped him become a better cricketer from the beginning. Ashwin said, “IPL is a difficult tournament. There are many factors in each session that can have an impact.
You can name it the dew, the pitch, the opposing team, whatever that impacts in different ways. This makes preparing for it a challenge. You have to be ready for challenges at all times.” “Personally though, playing in the IPL has always been exciting for me. IPL gives you a chance to experiment which helps me to be a better cricketer.” (agency)
