EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — It was no shock that after clinching his 325th profession victory, the second-most all-time amongst NFL head coaches, Bill Belichick was already on to subsequent week.
He insisted his focus was ahead Sunday, not on the previous, and deferred credit score to his gamers. But as for these gamers, they have been completely happy to rejoice their legendary head coach.
“It’s just dope to be a part of the history with him in a sense, to kind of claim it with him. It’s an honor. He just knows exactly what he’s doing. In Bill I trust, in Bill we trust,” Pats broad receiver Kendrick Bourne after the 22-17 win. “With Bill, we’ve always got a shot every single week. And I just love being a part of something like that, to be able to talk about that for the rest of my life.”
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones began his post-game press convention by honoring Belichick with a press release earlier than he took any questions.
“Just wanted to give a huge congratulations to coach Belichick. What an accomplishment,” Jones stated. “Obviously he’s done a great job here, and it’s just a blessing to be able to play for him. We don’t do the whole individual awards, but that’s a big one, and just to be his quarterback right now is a huge blessing.”
Belichick now trails solely Don Shula, who sits atop the wins leaderboard with 347. If the Patriots preserve a 9-10-win tempo over the subsequent few years, Belichick can be on monitor to cross Shula on the finish of the 2024 common season.
Belichick had been on monitor to earn win No. 325 final Monday towards the Bears, timing that felt serendipitous, contemplating he would have handed George Halas, a Chicago legend, towards Halas’ former crew. Instead, the Bears shocked the Patriots with a 33-14 beatdown in Foxboro. So, Belichick waited six extra days and achieved the feat towards his former crew and the final franchise he labored for earlier than the Patriots employed him in 2000.
That reality wasn’t misplaced on Bourne.
“That’s just dope, man, not letting (the Jets) spoil something that was on track,” Bourne stated. “It’s very exciting, and a win we needed, also.”
Pats outdoors linebacker Josh Uche praised Belichick personally and professionally, calling his publicly boring head coach misunderstood.
“Y’all don’t know the real Bill. A great guy, a great leader and got some of the best jokes I’ve heard in a while. So, it’s fun to come into meetings,” Uche stated. “You never ever know what to expect from the greatest coach of all time.”
As for Belichick himself, his feedback have been expectedly temporary: “I’ll be able to talk about that when it’s over. We’ll add them up at the end. It’s good to come down here and win,” he stated. “I’m happy for our team and appreciate all the great players we’ve had who’ve won those games. We had a couple of them in the locker room besides our players. Guys like (Devin) McCourty and (Matthew) Slater, (Jerrod) Mayo, Troy Brown. Those guys won a lot of games for us, for me, so those are team wins.”
