The San Diego Padres claimed catcher Gary Sanchez off waivers on Monday.
The transfer was made days after Sanchez was designated for task by the Mets to make room on the 26-man roster for Tomas Nido, who was reinstated from the injured listing.
The two-time All-Star performed three video games with the Mets, going 1-for-6 with three strikeouts and an RBI.
San Diego hopes Sanchez can present manufacturing on the catcher place, one thing that has been missing throughout the early levels of the season. Starter Austin Nola entered Monday batting .131 with one homer and 7 RBI in 99 at-bats. Second-stringer Brett Sullivan is hitting .170 with 4 extra-base hits and a .482 OPS in 21 video games since getting referred to as up from the minors on April 16.
Luis Campusano has been sidelined with a thumb damage and is anticipated to return across the All-Star break.
Sanchez is trying to revive his profession after touchdown on his third group this season. Before signing with the Mets, he was launched by the San Francisco Giants on May 2 after spending time with the franchise within the minor leagues.
The catcher spent his greatest days with the Yankees, the place he was runner-up in 2016 AL Rookie of the Year voting and was chosen to 2 All-Star groups. In seven seasons with the Bronx Bombers, Sanchez slashed .230/.318/.487 with 138 dwelling runs and 340 RBI.
