The first Merrimack Valley Conference management summit was nothing in need of a hit.
On Wednesday morning on the Tsongas Center in Lowell, the Merrimack Valley Conference’s member colleges invited student-athletes to take part in a management summit to listen to from audio system surrounding inclusion, service, and social and emotional well-being.
The summit was created by the convention’s athletic administrators and principals in an effort to additional the event of student-athletes in how they view themselves as representatives of their colleges and communities.
“Our goal always as a school and as a league is to try and make our student-athletes the best they can be not just as players but as leaders,” Lowell athletic director Dave Lezenski stated. “We listened to our student-athletes in terms of what they were clamoring for, and what they want is the tools to be better role models for their teammates and classmates.”
In addition to MIAA government director Bob Baldwin, audio system included former Cushing and Syracuse basketball standout and present life coach Kaleb Joseph, The Movement Family founder Michael Gorman, and Blake Associates President Dr. Carroll W. Blake. The almost 110 Merrimack Valley student-athletes in attendance have been break up up into three teams and rotated between the audio system to take part in interactive periods.
While Joseph centered on the flexibility to deal with the psychological pressures that include being a student-athlete, Gorman mentioned closely the significance of neighborhood and serving to the under-privileged. Dr. Blake’s dialogue centered on serving to student-athletes elevate their tradition consciousness and proficiency.
“Today was awesome to be able to hear from three speakers ,” Victor Duong, a cross-country and indoor monitor member at Lowell High School, stated. “To hear especially from Caleb (Joseph) who was my age not too long ago, he is easy to relate to and provides a great perspective on mental health that I think everyone connected with.”
