Those hoping for additional developments on the subject of Bishop Fenwick’s postseason ban should wait a bit longer.
The MIAA Board of Directors met just about on Tuesday morning and whereas a variety of matters had been coated together with the admittance of a pair of faculties and rewording of the handbook, dialogue over the postseason ban levied on Bishop Fenwick was saved for government session.
Sources going into the assembly stated that reconsideration of the ban was unlikely.
During public dialogue, the Board unanimously voted to simply accept Brooke Charter School and Codman Academy as members starting with the 2023-24 college 12 months. Former Malden principal and present head of the Henderson Ok-12 Inclusion School, Stephanie Sibley, was introduced because the board’s new president.
Much dialogue on the day centered round slight adjustments and changes to the MIAA Handbook. Most of the presentation made by Associate Executive Director Richard Pearson and Assistant Executive Director Phil Napolitano showcased rewording of the handbook that makes it extra digestible for directors.
With the changes come some minor notable adjustments. A sports activities week is now outlined as Sunday to Saturday throughout all sports activities whereas soccer was an exception. In order to be eligible for postseason play, a person should be a part of a program for at the least 50 % of competitions. A student-athlete qualifies by being any member of this system — freshman, junior varsity, or varsity — for at the least 50 % of the season. Lastly, Pearson and Napolitano made clear that postseason play is formally categorized as any day following that respective season’s common season deadline.
This was clarified to clear up confusion on the subject of the bonafide group rule which doesn’t permit gamers to realize waivers to take part in exterior sporting occasions in-season come postseason play.
