Norwood athletic director Jonathan Longley didn’t should journey far and vast to discover a new ladies basketball coach.
The college introduced Wednesday afternoon that Kristen McDonnell, who coached the Mustangs’ boys basketball workforce to the Division 2 state finals, will transfer over to just accept the vacant place. McDonnell takes over for Amy Lepley Quinn, who went 99-42 in seven years with three Tri-Valley League titles and an look within the Div. 2 state ladies last this previous season.
“We are very excited to have Kristen as our girls basketball coach,” Longley stated in a launch. “Kristen did an incredible job the past three seasons as our boys coach, elevating the program to elite status this past winter. Kristen’s success as a coach is unparalleled and we are looking forward to her staying in the Mustang family.”
McDonnell took over the boys program in June of 2019 after a decade of dominance teaching the ladies basketball workforce at Braintree. In her time there, the Wamps went 211-32 with seven Div. 1 South sectional titles in addition to 4 state championships.
Under her watch at Norwood, the boys workforce made quick strides capped off by this 12 months’s 21-3 run and spectacular run to the finals. With a strong group of returnees again within the fold, the choice to change over to the ladies program was not a simple one.
“I had such a great experience coaching the boys,” stated McDonnell, who went 39-16 in three years. “It’s always kind of been in the back of my head to get back to coaching on the girls side. This was the right time for me.”
McDonnell spoke to Quinn, who had knowledgeable her some time again of the choice to depart to spend extra time along with her household.
“We talked the whole time and she gave me a heads up,” McDonnell stated. “Amy did a really great job in the seven years, building up the program to get to a state title game. Those are big shoes to fill, but it will be a fun challenge.”
