“But even the person, all he had to endure and go through. Kind of puts in perspective, we don’t really go through that much. It was definitely humbling and a good experience.”
According to its web site, the Jackie Robinson Museum goals “to educate visitors about Jackie Robinson, the athlete, activist, patriot, entrepreneur and family man. Visitors can view Robinson’s authentic bronze Baseball Hall of Fame plaque. But baseball is simply a part of the teachings.
“I liked the whole thing,” Toussaint stated. “There’s a board that offers you Jackie Robinson’s timeline and actual information occurring. That was cool to see. There’s actual stuff on the earth occurring and he’s nonetheless doing what he’s doing, successful Rookie of the Year and this is happening.
“That was dope to see.”
Boston mirrored on Robinson’s lasting influence on and off the sphere.
“We knew the whole story about how Branch Rickey brought him in and signed him,” Boston stated. “All the issues he went via. To his faculty days at UCLA, how he was a monitor star, no matter he needed to play he performed and on the finish of the day baseball selected him a bit bit greater than he selected baseball and the remainder is historical past.
“The stance he took as a civil rights leader, the things he went through to support the message of Martin Luther King. He knew it was dangerous, but he felt it was important to be in the presence and stand by the side of Dr. Martin Luther King. That was a powerful message.”
One journey via wasn’t sufficient for Toussaint.
“He was my favorite player,” Toussaint stated. “Just taking 1% of who he was and trying to instill that to myself. It meant a lot just to be there. I went back around just to see it by myself. It was a dope experience.”
