North Sound. India bowled out England for 189 in 44.5 overs in the final of the Under-19 World Cup on Saturday with the help of five wickets from medium pacer Raj Bawa and four from Ravi Kumar. James Rieu (95) saved England from being reduced to an embarrassing score. Bawa took five for 31 in 9.5 overs while left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar took four for 34. India took wickets at regular intervals.
For England, Riu and James Sales (34 not out) shared a 93-run partnership for the eighth wicket. The Indian team, captained by Yash Dhul, dealt a blow to England in the second over when Ravi cheaply dismissed Jacob Bethel (two). Despite the initial setback, George Thomas took 14 runs in the next over from Rajvardhan Hungergekar, including one six and two fours. Ravi, once again giving success to India, sent England captain Tom Prest to the pavilion. Prest could not even open the account and England’s two wickets went out for 18 runs in the fourth over. Ravi took two wickets in the first two overs.

At the other end, Thomas continued the aggressive batting and hit Ravi for two fours. Hungergekar conceded 19 runs in the first spell, after which Indian captain Dhul changed the bowling. He would also have got success but Kaushal Tambe dropped Thomas’s catch at slip off Bawa. England needed a big partnership at this point of time but it was not being built. Bawa forced Thomas to play a poor shot and the ball went into Dhul’s hands at cover.
