Paarl/South Africa: Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah on Monday said that he would never shy away from taking up the responsibility if he gets a chance to captain the national team in future.
Virat Kohli’s captaincy career in all three formats has come to an end after he resigned from the Test captaincy, while Rohit Sharma will turn 35 next year and the question arises as to who could be the player who will be there for the long haul. Can lead the team. In this context, Bumrah is also being considered among the contenders for the captaincy. KL Rahul will play the captain while Bumrah will play the role of vice-captain in the ODI series against South Africa starting on Wednesday.
“If given this opportunity, it will be an honor and I don’t think any player will refuse it and I am no exception,” Bumrah said in a pre-series press conference. Be it the leadership group, I always want to contribute to the best of my ability.”

The fast bowler said that it is his natural quality to take responsibility and help his teammates. Bumrah said, “I see this situation in the same way. Taking responsibility and talking to the players and helping them has always been my approach and whatever the situation is, it will always be my approach.
“It doesn’t matter if the position is there or not. I always focus on how I can contribute.” Bumrah said, “The role will not change at all for me. I have to play my part well first. Contributing maximum from your side and helping KL (Rahul) on the field if needed. Bumrah said that he used to do this even when he was not the vice-captain.
“Even when I was not the vice-captain, I used to try to talk to a young player. There used to be a lot of discussion on how to decorate the fielding and I will try to play the same role in the future as well.” The Indian team management will be completely new after Kohli relinquishes the captaincy of all three formats but Bumrah doesn’t find anything strange in it.
“I can’t talk to everyone but I can say that it doesn’t matter (change in team management). I am here to help everyone. Every player respects the process of change.” Bumrah also said that if there is no responsibility then there is no fun in it. “If there is no responsibility or pressure, then where is the fun. I am ready to discharge my responsibilities well.”
