new Delhi: On the sudden demise of Shane Warne, not only the cricket world, players of other sports and popular personalities of their fields paid emotional tribute. From British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Hollywood actors Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman, tributes have been paid to the legendary spinner who passed away on Friday.
Warne’s team-mates recalled the days spent with the legendary cricketer. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting wrote on his Twitter page, “It is difficult to put into words. I met him for the first time at the academy when I was 15 years old. He gave me my surname. We were teammates for over a decade. We saw all the ups and downs together. Goodbye King. My condolences to Keith, Bridget, Jason, Brooke, Jackson and Summer.”

Glenn McGrath said, “I thought nothing could happen to him. He was living a better life than most people lead around the age of 20.”
Another former Australia captain, Mark Taylor, said, “His life has been full of turmoil, but he has lived life freely.” Brian Lara and Vivian Richards, like many others, cannot believe the passing of the greatest player of their time.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan said, “Shane was the greatest cricketer of all time, but more than that, his style graced every dressing room, commentary box, bar, golf club and group of friends.”
Legendary England all-rounder Ian Botham said, “I have lost a dear friend on and off the field of play. He was one of the best.”

Former India captain Virat Kohli, playing his 100th Test match, said in a video posted by BCCI, “Received the news last night. This is unexpected. For me he is the greatest spinner to have played this game. He will definitely be missed.”
Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and current UK Prime Minister Johnson also paid tribute to the veteran. Rudd wrote, “Larger than life. A living legend. Gone too soon. This is a huge loss for both cricket and the country. The nation mourns his demise.”
