The Mets continued their latest profitable methods on Monday in opposition to the MLB-best Braves. Buck Showaler’s squad broke out the massive lumper in Atlanta with a 10-4 series-opening win.
DJ Stewart opened up the scoring within the second with a solo homer and Francisco Lindor delivered the knockout blow with a three-run shot within the sixth to provide the Amazins all they wanted for his or her seventh out of their final 9 contests.
Jeff McNeil, Daniel Vogelbach, Pete Alonso and Stewart all registered RBI’s within the sixth because the Mets rallied off of Braves’ starter Allan Winans.
The swinging Mets scored three runs within the second, 4 within the fifth and three sixth to maintain the Braves out of the ballgame after they roughed up left-hander David Peterson.
The southpaw surrendered 4 runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of labor. Peterson allowed two solo homers to Marcell Ozuna — one which gave the Braves the lead within the fourth — coughing up an early 3-0 lead.
Showalter needed to rely closely on his steady after receiving hardly any size from his starter. Phil Bickford, Sam Coonrod, Adam Ottavino and Drew Smith all needed to carry the load to get the ultimate outs mandatory with a cushty six-run lead.
Tylor Megill will take the ball for the Amazins on Tuesday because the Mets will look to safe one other sequence victory. Bryce Elder (3.46 ERA) will take the mound for Brian Snitker.
