ATTLEBORO — When Case Mankins talks, you could consider his phrases in decrease case. Low-key, and no motive to name consideration to himself.
But when the offensive and defensive lineman for Bishop Feehan is on the sphere, you can describe him with all caps, and exclamation factors in all places.
As the North Attleboro native will get prepared for his senior season, Mankins matches the same profile to his dad, Logan, who was an All-Pro guard for the Patriots. When the helmet is off, each maintain a low profile. When it’s on, the 2 convey that managed chaos like solely one of the best within the sport can.
Feehan coach Bryan Pinabell remembers his first impression of Case.
“I had just taken the job. You could tell right away (Mankins) was a pretty special kid,” Pinabell stated. “Very quiet, very respectful, very hard working. One thing I remember that was kind of a funny story, is we brought him up at the end of his freshman year. We brought him up to varsity for the Thanksgiving game. We were doing a live drill, and he was playing defensive end, and he absolutely manhandles the senior running back. The senior running back was so angry. And Case, I remember, looks at me and says, ‘Well, I’m here to play football.’ It was incredible.”
Mankins smiles on the story.
“I do (remember that). It was pretty intense,” Mankins stated. “I was a little scared because I was a freshman and (the running back) was a senior. But, I mean, it’s just the way I play.”
And that’s at full velocity, each on offense and protection. Although one would possibly assume that, like his father, Mankins would match higher on offense. But that’s not the case.
“I prefer defense,” Mankins stated, “but I just like the game of football.”
At 6-4, 255 kilos, Mankins is an excellent higher athlete than he will get credit score for, Pinabell says.
“Last year, we’re playing Reading in the playoffs. They were very good. It was a great game,” Pinabell stated. “There was a play — I want to say it was in the third quarter — (Reading quarterback James) Murphy rolled out, went all the way to the far end of the field. Case was the backside defensive end, and must have chased him about 50 yards, and made the play on the opposing sideline. You look at (Mankins) and you wouldn’t say he was exactly a speed demon. But he’s got quicks, and that play right there, I said, ‘Yeah, that was big time.’ ”
Logan was a big-time participant for the Pats, however stays within the background as a father. He will watch his sons — Case’s youthful brother, Kane, is a freshman at Feehan — and typically take a look at movie with Case, however aside from that’s not overly concerned.
Case is as much as six scholarship provides, with Fordham, URI, UNH, Maine, Bryant, and Stonehill all after him. Mankins is a captain this yr, however he has not modified his strategy. He leads by instance, not a “rah-rah” speech.
“I’d say I’m the same guy,” Mankins stated. “Pretty quiet. I just love to play football more than anything else.”
Pinabell wouldn’t have it another manner.
“He has a great humility about him,” Pinabell stated. “He’s just one of those guys. He just punches a time clock, brings his lunch pail in, and he just goes to work. He’s not flashy. You’d probably never know that he’s Logan Mankins’ son. He’s honestly just one of the guys. He’s got an incredible humility about him for the talent level he has. I really respect that about him. I love having that.”
