Pune: The budget is presented by the Pune Municipal Commissioner every year in the month of February. Pune Municipal Commissioner, in the upcoming 2021-22 budget, it has been suggested to increase the tax by 10 percent in all types of PMC (PMC). Soon the proposal in this regard will be placed before the Standing Committee for approval. Such information was given by the official of the Municipal Corporation.
The work of preparing the budget for the year 2021-22 has started by the Municipal Commissioner. Property tax being the main source of income for PMC, it is suggested to increase the budget of PMC commissioner. PMC budget increases every year. Increase in income is also necessary due to increase in the cost of materials, increase in wages of employees and increase in expenses due to rising inflation. At present, the work of water supply, drainage line and some major roads is going on in the city. Expensive projects like river improvement and river bank improvement will also be approved soon. Therefore, it is necessary to make adequate provision for these big works. On the other hand, due to the implementation of 7th Pay Commission to 18 thousand employees, the salary, wage gap and pension burden is also going to increase.

This has been made possible for the construction department by giving the facility to pay the license fee in different phases till December 31 under the Unified DC Rules implemented by the state government. Senior officials of PMC have confirmed this. A proposal to increase the tax will be presented before the Standing Committee in the next week, PMC officials gave this information.
Proposal may be rejected due to election
PMC’s ruling BJP has not hiked any property tax in the last five years. In the last four budgets also, it was suggested to increase it, but it was rejected by the standing committee of PMC. Rejecting the suggestion of a hike in property tax, a plan to increase income by recovering property tax arrears was included in the budget. A possible tax hike suggested by the administration in view of the upcoming PMC elections is more likely to be rejected.
Need for provision for basic amenities in 23 villages
A big provision will have to be made in the budget to provide basic facilities in the new 23 villages included in the PMC. Therefore, along with capital expenditure, revenue expenditure will also increase. In the ongoing financial year, even during the corona epidemic, the construction department has so far achieved the target of one thousand crore rupees of income.
